Revised Hostile forest and owl positions

I attempted to change the leaves on the tree so it isn't so even, revised the fog, and tried redesigning the mushrooms (I'm not sure how if I made them any better because the species from my reference show them clustered).

Owl Positions: I wasn't sure where to best position the owl...so I went into the photoshop and made these :/

feedback would be great, ahah...

Another...Friendly Forest...

Hey Kevan: Glad you made changes. Better, but I recommend these tweeks:

1) Better values / value structure. I played around with your really quick, just so you get an idea. See how the trees on left side silhouette better? It also breaks up that big open light value area. It was competing too much with your focal pt. I also touched up a few other areas.

2) Get a consistent light source. Light is directional, Use it to describe direction and time of day. Also: BE CONSISTENT. It should be hitting surfaces on the same side throughout your composition. Alluded to this in the way I reworked the values. Just make it more accurate than I did.

3) Made Owl a bit smaller, just to give breathing room. Also, look at the clusters of leaves behind. You want to have negative space around him, but there should be continuation of leaves on other side. Tree, left hand side, framing waterfall. I moved it back a little bit.... Mushroom: refer to your reference how they a) grow & b) look grouped. These remind me of Smurf Village. Add a bit of contrast to foreground elements: don't go overboard. Maybe just a sprinkling of light just to show form, low contrast but just a bit...

That's about it. Hope the comp I tweaked and notes make sense.

Ok..here's another go at the friendly forest. I tried making the focal point off-centered...reduced the size of the owl, and redesigned the trees.

feedback would be appreciated, thanks.

Nathan: Guadalupe Gardens Plein Aire

Another go at the Hostile Forest

I made the tree on the left look more massive, revised the split in the fallen tree trunk, and added a silhouette of a bobcat (referencing the witch's transformation into a cat..)

I'm not sure about the position of the bobcat..so i can always reposition it somewhere else. And I just realized that maybe the owl would suite the hostile forest better...and then incorporate the bobcat into the friendly forest? haha.....hm...I don't know :/

feedback would be much appreciated, thanks!

Nelson: Plein Aire

Screw it, here's mine. No touch up. The idea is to get it done in one sitting, so I here it is. One can always "touch up" his/her work, but eh... this'll teach me to work faster. Fun day today guys.

Down Came the Rain...

Post Plein Aire studies. A good trial run if you've never uploaded an image on here before (post at around 600 x 900 pixels). Thanks to you guys for coming out to Guadalupe Gardens today: Katya, Brandon, Kristine S., Finnian, and Sam D. Finn, Sam: you cut out in time to avoid the rain. You guys knew something you forgot to tell us? Good job today guys. Remember: Shapes, Values, Composition... I'll post mine tomorrow after a little touch up.

Friendly Forest

Previous friendly forest comp

Final Friendly forest comp

Hi, it would be great to get some feedback on my final comp (the bottom one). I really tried to incorporate more reference as compared to my previous comp....and I also incorporated a great horned owl at the top right corner. I'm still unsure whether the owl is too big, but I wanted to see what it would look like in my forest. I also changed the background by adding a waterfall as the focal point.
